Case study Overview:

Cargills is well known brand in Sri Lanka for its commitment to affordability, quality, and sustainability. It also empowers local farmers and producers by bridging rural agriculture with urban markets, making it a trusted household name. Still, Cargills Online have some problems - cluttered layout, inconsistency, poor navigation & outdated visuals, which frustrates the users, according to my research. An app used by 100K+ users on a daily basis, especially in Colombo, lacked certain qualities like clarity, minimalism, simplicity, and user experience.

Design process : Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, Test

Tools used: Figma, Google Forms

Timeline: 4 weeks

Industry: Retail and Food Services Industry

Roles: User Research, UI/UX design

Why did I chose Cargills online for a redesign as my first project?

This is based on my personal experience, which didn't feel very intuitive. And they were mainly focused on providing enough services to hold the customers and stay competitive. Although they introduced new sections in their UI while I was redesigning the application, it's still following the old layout which isn't clear to consume the content.

The Challenge

I took the challenge to apply my design skills and come up with a good revamp to make the app visually appealing and easy to use as much as I can as my first project.

Research & Analysis of Problems and Defining Goals

Identified problems

  1. Lack of minimalism and not following UI terms: A simple visually appealing interface for easy navigation.
  2. Visibility of system status: product availability, Order tracking, Poor placements of discounts & ongoing deals.
